The Greenleaf Art Center is home to a creative collective working in the visual arts and related fields. At GAC we encourage artistic growth through workshops, classes, art exhibits and monthly events. The GAC teaching staff are local professional artists and teachers.

Classes for Adults

Figure Drawing (Karen Perl, instructor)

Mixed skill level class, for beginners & those continuing their studies.

Class Tuition: $200, GAC members $180 - 8 weeks

Draw or paint the figure. An exploration of the figure as subject matter. Learn how to render the figure through observation of a live model. Emphasis will be on color, shading, and gaining an understanding of the nature of the human form. Some nude, some costumed classes.

Painting & Drawing (Karen Perl, instructor)

Mixed skill level class, for beginners and those continuing their studies in charcoal, pastel, oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Choose your own media.

Class Tuition $160, GAC members $145 - 8 weeks
(Add an additional hour of uninstructed painting time for $40 more)

An introduction to line, value, color and media. Focusing on fundamentals & developing a personal creative vision.

Portraiture (Grace Cole, instructor)

Students will progress from black and white charcoal pencil drawing to painting in full color. Bring a clear, uncomplicated, sharp black and white photo of a head, 5" x 7", to begin.

General Painting (Grace Cole, instructor)

Class Tuition: $240, GAC members $216. - 10 weeks

This class is for students who want to stretch their talents. Oil, acrylic, watercolor and pencil medias, students will learn basic to advanced techniques of painting.

Goal Setting for the Creative Mind (Lisa Kemp, instructor)

Class Tuition $100, 4 weeks

Creative types can get overwhelmed by all their interests and activities, or simply get off-track in the course of daily life. If you'd like to accomplish goals and move toward your dreams, this class is for you! In this series of four weekly classes, we'll use a proven process and group support to identify and achieve our goals.

This class is designed to teach beginning or intermediate students the fundamentals of drawing. Through classic lessons and innovative exercises we will use various mediums and techniques to explore the basics of visual representation.

Teaching experience includes Evanston Art Center, Old Town Triangle Association, Civic Arts Education, Walnut Creek, CA, California College of the Arts, , Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis, MO. Has exhibited throughout the Midwest and California. Represented by Melanee Cooper Gallery in Chicago.

 

Classes for the Whole Family

Family Knitting (Sarah B. Ellis, instructor)

Class Tuition: $120, GAC members $108. - 6 weeks

Tuesdays 7:00 - 9:00 pm
January 6 - February 10

Beginning and Intermediate level class for all ages. Beginning knitters will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and bind off. Intermediate knitters will work at their own pace on patterns of their choice with the guidance of the instructor. Knit whatever your heart desires: hat, scarf, socks, sweater, shawl..... or if you don't know what to knit Sarah can help you find a pattern to meet your skill level.

Drawing Caricatures (Darick Maasen, instructor)

Class Tuition $120, 4 weeks

Caracature drawing is a fun skill that can also be profitable, whether you are looking for a way to make a little extra cash, or just impress your friends at parties. This class will explore both the fundamental skills of drawing faces live and quickly (no erasers needed!) as well as the subtle techniques that make people laugh.

Private Study

Tuition $35. per hour

You pick the area of study plus the time and day - we'll find the teacher.

Creature Feature! Story & Art Time (Kathleen Paluch, art instructor with guest storytellers from local theatre groups)

Animals of all shapes and sizes - some real, some imagined! Join us for a fun-filled morning of stories (first 1/2 hour) and art exploration (second 1/2 hour). Perfect for budding artists and future writers! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

YogaKids & Crafts (Jennifer Erenberg, instructor)

A class focusing on the health benefits of yoga with a fun artistic twist! A great opportunity for your child to try yoga, have fun, and make a craft to take home. Designed to inspire, de-stress, and allow your child to be the master of their imagination.

Multimedia Art Kathleen Paluch, instructor)

A trip around the world to study the work of famous artists while exploring the elements of art. Students will work with line, color, shapes and texture in a variety of materials. Students will be
introduced to working on an easel, painting and drawing.

Cartooning (Darick Maasen, instructor)

Tuition $120, 6 weeks

Ages 8-12 years

Tuesdays 5:30 - 7:30 pm

This class will teach the fundamental aspects of cartooning, such as character design, the language of cartooning, and the simple shapes that go on to become the next "Sponge-Bob Square-pants". We will build on our drawing skills and increase our understanding of simple shapes that evolve into complex dimensional characters. That's all folks!

Teen Painting & Drawing (Kathleen Paluch, instructor)

Tuition $120, 6 weeks

Explore different techniques of painting and drawing. Students will build a familiarity with materials and techniques. This class is an introduction to line, value, color and composition focusing on fundamentals with an emphasis on developing observational skills.

Students are responsible for their own supplies for this class, a materials list will be furnished at registration.



To register for classes or workshops, print and fill out the class registration form and return it to the Center. You can also call the Greenleaf Art Center Office (773) 465-4652. Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis Payment is due at registration. You must pre-register to ensure space in a class or workshop. Checks should be made to The Greenleaf Art Center. Refunds will be given less a processing fee of $10. You must withdraw from a class prior to its start date.

The Greenleaf Art Center reserves the right to cancel a class or workshop if a minimum of enrollment is not met. Missed classes may only be made up within the same class session. List of supplies needed for each class will be available at registration.
